Consumers Meet Local Farmers at Open House

The Urban Ecology Center will host its 13th annual Local Farmer Open House, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., March 7, at their Riverside Park location. Area farmers will be on hand to share information about their growing practices and seasonal offerings and to provide details about their community supported agriculture (CSA) subscriptions.

The event will include two workshops. Introduction to CSAs will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. with details on how CSAs work. Annie Wegner LeFort, cooking instructor, master food preserver and founder of the Mindful Palate, will share ideas for finding and preparing fresh food all year-round during the second workshop, Eating Healthy All Year, which takes place at noon and 12:45 p.m. Wegner LeFort will discuss how to use the contents of a weekly CSA box to prepare quick, healthy meals; how to shop at farmers’ markets; and how to preserve foods.
