Active Hope Workshop Inspires and Empowers

Environmentalist, writer and shamanic practitioner Kathleen Rude will lead a three-part workshop, Active Hope, from 7 to 9 p.m., May 30, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 31 and June 1, at the Marian Center for Nonprofits, in St. Francis.

Based on the work of Joanna Macy, Ph.D., an eco-philosopher and scholar of Buddhism and deep ecology and the creator of The Work That Reconnects workshop series, Active Hope teaches a methodology for creating personal and social change.

Participants will learn how to transform fear and despair into inspiration and a sense of empowerment through interactive exercises, movement, inspirational readings and simple ceremonies. Optional lunches for purchase will be available Saturday and Sunday.

Rude comments, “Active Hope embraces what we’d love to see happen in the world, and it involves becoming a participant in bringing about what we hope for. This engaging experience will give attendees tools for dealing with the challenges of living in a world bombarded with personal, local and global crises.”
