Milwaukee Eat Local Resource Fair and Challenge

Eat Local Milwaukee will host an Eat Local Resource Fair, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., August 25, at the Urban Ecology Center, in Riverside Park, to present tools, tips and ideas that will help Milwaukeeans eat locally all year long. Area farmers and food vendors will sell their goods directly to attendees, and a locally produced lunch will be available for purchase.

Workshops and cooking demonstrations include Tips on Buying Meat Directly from Farmers, from 11:30 a.m. to noon; Talking Local Foods, with Chef Peter Sandroni, of La Merenda Restaurant, from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.; The Flavor of Wisconsin for Kids: A Feast of History—author talk and book signing, with Terese Allen and Bobbie Malone, from 1 to 1:30 p.m.; and Time-Saving Tricks for Soups and More—a cooking demo with Kathy Papineau, owner of MKE Localicious catering company, from 1:45 to 2:15 p.m.

Eat Local Milwaukee is a collaboration of the Urban Ecology Center and Outpost Natural Foods Co-op, with the support of Slow Food WISE and the MKE Foodies. The organization will put on the sixth annual Milwaukee Eat Local Challenge, from September 1 to 15, which will encourage Milwaukeeans to eat locally for two weeks, so that they can gain a better awareness of both their relationship to the food they eat—from farm to producer to retailer to fork—and the diverse flavors of local food.
