Free Classes Teach Composting Basics

For those interested in composting but don’t know where to begin, the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works, along with Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful and the Milwaukee Public Library (MPL), will host a free “Introduction to Basic Backyard Composting” class this summer on multiple dates. Composting is a process that breaks down food scraps and other organic material into a rich soil conditioner. The process also helps divert landfill waste. Participants will learn how to start composting, the materials needed, the do’s and don’ts, and more.

Classes are scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m. on August 6, at the Capitol MPL branch; 6 to 7 p.m. on August 14, at the Bay View MPL branch; 6 to 7 p.m. on August 21, at the East MPL branch; and 2 to 3 p.m. on August 28, at the Zablocki MPL branch.
