Victory Garden Initiative Launches Annual Garden Blitz

Hundreds of volunteers will join Victory Garden Initiative (VGI) from May 7 through 21 for the nation’s largest garden-building event, the Great Milwaukee Victory Garden Blitz. More than 300 volunteers will build and install approximately 500 four-by-eight-foot raised-bed gardens in locations throughout Milwaukee.

The gardens were purchased by community members at an affordable price and are filled with organic soil from VGI local compost partner Blue Ribbon Organics. Each year, at least half the Blitz gardens go to low-income recipients.

Each day of the Blitz, volunteers meet at Habitat for Humanity, 3726 North Booth Street, to gather supplies and head out to neighborhoods to start building gardens.

Registration is open for those wishing to volunteer to help build gardens across Milwaukee. For more information or to volunteer, visit VictoryGardenInitiative.org/blitz.
