Midwest Renewable Energy Association Energy Fair

The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) will host its popular annual renewable energy and sustainable living educational fair June 19 through 21, at Renew the Earth Institute, in Custer.

In its 26th year, the event promises family entertainment, local food, green living information and education provided through 250 scheduled workshops. Hundreds of environmentally friendly exhibitors will be on hand to promote products for sustainable lifestyles.

Energy Fair keynote speakers include Democracy Now! host and Breaking the Sound Barrier author Amy Goodman, who will share the power of independent journalism in the struggle for a better world. Jon Wellinghoff, immediate past chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, will present an exciting look at the state of energy and energy policy in our nation. Atina Diffley, author of Turn Here Sweet Corn: Organic Farming Works, will speak about running an organic farm and her successful legal and citizen campaign against Koch Industries to protect the soils and certification of organic farms in Minnesota. Keynotes begin at 1 p.m. daily.

Cost: $15/day; $35/weekend pass; discounts available through June 5; MREA members, volunteers and kids under 12 free; dads accompanied by their children on Father’s Day, June 21, will receive free admission.
