Dance for the Hearts Benefit
for Veterans

The nonprofit Starfish Foundation, dedicated to helping emotional trauma survivors heal, will partner with its sponsor organization, Healing Warrior Hearts, a veterans group, to hold the Dance for the Hearts and Poker Run fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., May 23, at Milwaukee Harley-Davidson.

The event will feature dancing and music by DJ James Barnes, a Vietnam veteran. There will also be activities for children, including a kids’ raffle. The gala will conclude with a flag retirement ceremony at 5 p.m. Proceeds will help fund Healing Warrior Heart’s free emotional healing retreat programs for veterans.

According to Patricia Clason, founder of Healing Warrior Hearts, 22 veterans commit suicide every day. “This program has saved lives and fills a gap left by the government system for mental health services,” she says. “We believe veterans have already paid the price with their service, so Healing Warrior Hearts retreats are free to veterans. This requires the financial support of the general public.”
