Dance for the Hearts to Benefit Veterans

The Starfish Foundation, a nonprofit committed to raising funds to provide scholarships for emotional healing work, including a special veterans program, will hold the Dance for the Hearts fundraiser, with its sponsor organization, Healing Warrior Hearts, from 2 to 11 p.m., May 17, at the American Legion Post 434, in Oak Creek. The gala will feature DJ James Barnes, a Vietnam veteran. Food trucks, face painting, horses from Stepping Stone Farms, casino play and a raffle are also featured. Proceeds will help fund Healing Warrior Heart’s free emotional healing retreat programs for veterans.

According to Healing Warrior Hearts founder Patricia Clason, 22 veterans commit suicide every day. “This program fills a gap left by the government system for mental health services; it has saved lives,” she remarks. “Healing Warrior Hearts retreats are free to veterans because we believe they have already paid the price through their service. Offering this requires the financial support of the general public.”

Cost: $10; children 12 and under free. Location: 9327 S. Shepard Ave., Oak Creek. For more information, call 414-412-1415, email [email protected] or visit StarfishFound.org/dance.
