VGI Sixth Annual Victory Garden Blitz

The volunteers of Victory Garden Initiative, a nonprofit promoting a sustainable and socially just food system, will construct 500 raised-bed gardens throughout Milwaukee during its Victory Garden Blitz, from May 10 through 24. Hundreds of Milwaukee partners, including businesses, volunteers and individual donors, partake in the garden construction, which is eligible to both residences and businesses. Beds are still available for purchase.

The project’s goal is to eliminate food deserts, to educate people about growing and gardening and to help them grow their own fresh food.

Victory Garden Initiative continues to seek shovels, wheelbarrows and rakes, as well as volunteers to help move soil, assemble the wooden raised beds and plant. The 2014 Victory Garden Blitz is supported by multiple area businesses, as well as the Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity, which provides the warehouse space that serves as the campaign’s home base.
