“Healthful Indian Flavors with Alamelu” Airing on MPTV

Alamelu Vairavan

Culinary educator and consultant Alamelu Vairavan, who co-authored three cookbooks with Patricia Marquardt, including the recently released Healthy South Indian Cooking, is hosting a 13-show cooking series on Milwaukee Public Television (MPTV). The series began January 7 and airs Saturdays, 12:30 p.m., on channel 10 and 16; the show is repeated Sundays at 2 p.m., on channel 36 and Fridays at 6 p.m., on channel 10.

“In this program, I will be sharing my passion for healthful Indian cooking using a variety of vegetables, preparing flavored rice dishes and lean meats, all enhanced with spices and legumes,” says Vairavan. By demonstrating easy-to-prepare dishes that are not time consuming, the show promises to be helpful to anyone that wants to integrate a variety of vegetables in their daily diets and learn how to use spices, which have intrinsic health benefits. Viewers will discover how easy it is to prepare tasty, aromatic, flavorful vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes that blend well with home-cooked American comfort foods and are enjoyed even by children.

“In a nutshell, it is all about cooking good food with fresh ingredients,” comments Vairavan. She also offers cooking classes, leads team-building events and hosts demonstrations at food and wine events.
