Writing Haiku as Sacred Art
We will explore using contemplative silence and writing haiku to capture images in nature, memorable moments in our lives, and more.

Being alive and aware in the moment is a powerful spiritual practice. Writing haiku helps you recognize what is right in front of you, write it down, then step back to see all that was hidden, getting a glimpse of the ever-present Spirit permeating all things. Haiku originated as a Japanese poetic form that consists of three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. Its brevity and structure allow everyone to be a haiku poet who honors the sacredness of everyday life. We will explore using contemplative silence and writing haiku to capture images in nature, memorable moments in our lives, brief prayers, and meaning from words that speak to us through lectio divina, a process of contemplative reading.
