HOLISTIC FITNESS THROUGH TRADITIONAL MARTIAL ARTS

Sensei Morganne MacDonald, a 7th Degree Black Belt in Shorin-Ryu karate and Okinawan kobudo, co-founded Midwest Shorin-Ryu with her husband, Vince Milewski, to share the lifelong benefits of martial arts training with their community.

MacDonald’s journey began in 1991 shortly after graduating from law school. Working long hours as a young attorney, she sought a healthy outlet for stress. On her commute, she noticed a karate dojo in Hales Corners led by Sensei Daniel Schroeder and decided to step inside. “It was one of the best decisions I ever made,” she says.

Under Schroeder’s mentorship, MacDonald trained for decades. After Schroeder’s passing in early 2025, MacDonald and fellow students chose to carry his teachings forward. That vision led to the opening of Midwest Shorin-Ryu Health & Wellness Center.

Karate, Yoga, Chair Yoga, Kobudo weapons training and Tai Chi classes are available for students of all ages and abilities. The benefits extend far beyond physical self-defense; through consistent practice, students cultivate strength, agility, balance and mental clarity.

“What I love about training is that when you step into the dojo, everything else disappears. For that hour you focus on movement, breath and power. When class ends, your challenges are still there—but they feel far more manageable.”

For MacDonald, karate is not just exercise. It is a lifelong practice that strengthens body, mind and spirit.
