Lakeshore State Park to Add Visitor Center and Boost Outdoor Programs

Lakeshore State Park in downtown Milwaukee is building support to create a visitor center aimed at enriching the experience of its expanding urban audience. As Wisconsin’s only urban state park, it offers restored prairies, lakeside trails and waterfront access in the heart of the city.
The proposed visitor center will feature educational exhibits, restrooms and flexible space for community programs, all designed to deepen outdoor learning and make the park more welcoming. Supporters can contribute to the center’s development through donations and memberships with the Friends of Lakeshore State Park, which help maintain trails, enhance habitats and support environmental education.
Visitors can also enjoy special programs in July, including a Dragon Boat Festival on July 12 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., a Fossil Hike on July 13 from 4 to 5 p.m., and a beach bonfire and color hike on July 16 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Additional events include a Fishing Clinic on July 26 and an Urban Bird Hike on July 27.
