The Healing Benefits of Reiki

Oct 01, 2022 12:00AM ● By Myles Mecimovich
Reiki is a relaxing form of healing therapy that is applied through noninvasive and nonmanipulative gentle touch. In a 2017 article entitled, “Reiki Is Better Than Placebo and Has Broad Potential as a Complementary Health Therapy,” the National Institute of Health states that the therapy coexists well with other medical and therapeutic techniques. Developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the 1920s, it involves a slow progression of hand positions, either lightly touching or hovering above a person’s clothed body.

According to the study referred to in the NIH article, Reiki helps with pain and with easing feelings of anxiety and depression while providing a feeling of psychospiritual well-being. Reiki is now used in many hospitals, and some clients have also reported that the therapy aids with fatigue and digestive issues. Monthly sessions are generally recommended for maximum and consistent benefit.
