Blue Ribbon Organics Partners with Victory Garden Initiative for 13th Annual Victory Garden Blitz

Blue Ribbon Organics is continuing its annual tradition of partnering with Victory Garden Initiative (VGI), a nonprofit dedicated to creating a socially just, environmentally sustainable, nutritious food system for all, for the Victory Garden Blitz, April 17 through May 16. During this annual event, VGI’s team of enthusiastic volunteers installs hundreds of four-by-eight-foot, raised-bed gardens at homes, businesses, schools and churches throughout Milwaukee. Blue Ribbon Organics’ owner James Jutrzonka also participates in the event.

Each raised-bed garden is filled with Blue Ribbon Organics’ Blitz Blend, a raised-bed garden mix that’s a proprietary blend of certified organic compost and topsoil. Budding gardeners can use it for planting vegetables, fruits and flowers, due to the combination of nutrients from the compost and structure to the topsoil, which helps with settling after installs.

This year’s Blitz will be spread out for an entire month to accommodate COVID-19 precautions while still building hundreds of gardens across every ZIP code of Milwaukee and beyond. A standard bed that includes soil, lumber and seeds costs $200; or $100 for soil only. Additional yards of soil are available for $75 per yard. There is a four-bed discount for $680. To keep growing healthy food accessible for everyone, eight of Milwaukee’s ZIP codes are eligible for discounted garden beds starting at $25.
