New Location for Community Walk for Suicide Prevention

The Wisconsin chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will hold the annual Out of the Darkness Milwaukee Walk on October 13 at a new location this year. Previously held at Humboldt Park in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood, this year’s walk will be at Veterans Park, in downtown Milwaukee. Participants will begin walking along Milwaukee’s beautiful lakefront and make their way down Lincoln Memorial Drive. Check-in/registration is at 9 a.m., with a program at 10:30 a.m. The walk begins at 11 a.m.

Registered walkers will join the effort with thousands of people nationwide to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy and support survivors of suicide loss. Socialized, leashed dogs are welcome and for a $10 donation, pooches receive an AFSP bandana. AFSP has set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate by 20 percent by 2025.

Location: 1010 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr., Milwaukee. For more information or to register, call 414- 510-6790, email [email protected] or visit Tinyurl.com/y5jermex.
