Personal health and planetary health go hand in hand. Most communities and most people, no matter how “healthy,” can benefit from a good clean-up.

The more we nourish ourselves—physically, mentally, spiritually—the more we also contribute to healing the planet. When we are our best selves, we are more conscious of our actions and how we treat the people and world around us.

The more we work on our emotional and mental wellness, the more efficient, effective and collaborative we are at our jobs; the kinder we are to our spouses, parents and kids the more considerate we are of the people and environment that surrounds us.

The more we look at health and illness from a root cause approach, the easier it is to help the body to heal itself and to stay well with natural wellness and holistic health methods.

The more we stock our fridge with local, organic foods, the better we nourish ourselves while supporting farmers who use sustainable growing practices that promote soil health and avoid pesticides from ending up in the air and water.

Detoxifying our bodies with good food and natural methods allows our energy, blood and lymph to flow smoothly like picking up trash from rivers, lakes and streams.

A healthy home reflects a healthy environment. Using natural cleaners instead of chemicals is easy on our lungs and decreases pollution in water and air. With mindful décor, plants and furnishings, we promote peace of mind and create space to be our best selves.

We can show our kids how beneficial acts of service can be, like planting trees or picking up pet waste and trash that isn’t our own. The acts of kindness, physical exertion and connection to nature fosters mental and physical health and promotes a cleaner, harmonious community.

Natural Awakenings is celebrating 30 years of educating, empowering and connecting our communities about the importance of our health and environmental health, and the synergy between the two.

This month, in celebration of Earth Day, we encourage you to commit to an act of service or to support a business that promotes either healthy living, a healthy planet, or both. Natural Awakenings is a great place to start.

You will find info about Earth Day events and wellness expos, along with many remarkable advertisers who offer eco-friendly landscaping, organic compost, locally-made natural skin and hair products, organic CBD grown in southeast Wisconsin, biological dentistry, wellness detox services like colon hydrotherapy and massage, and a home cleaning company that uses natural products.

Healthy Living, Healthy Planet. We can’t have one without the other.
