Chef Ruta Kahate has opened a new restaurant, Ruta's Fresh Indian Fare, featuring fresh, healthful Indian cuisine. The restaurant’s unique concept allows guests to build their own Fresh Indian Bowl. They can choose from a base of rice, quinoa, salad greens or a NaanMelt, and then add a protein from options such as roast chicken, savory pork, seared steak, turmeric tofu or spiced chickpeas. Each bowl is then topped with the guest’s favorite curry sauce. Guests can also pick four veggie sides from a vibrant array of options.

Kahate is also an author and serial restaurateur who has lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area, and in India, before moving to Milwaukee. With a passion for health and nutrition, her cooking is based on the ancient Ayurvedic principle that food is the best medicine. “The menu is light and nourishing. A meal here leaves you refreshed instead of ready for a nap,” she says.

Location: 207 W. Freshwater Way, Milwaukee. For more information, call 414-509-6802 or visit RutasMKE.com.
